Issues

• With fac_zone keyed, the FAC patch leaves out a split fault's structural rows, against its documentation

  bug

• snes_max_it cannot raise the rotated loop's 50-iteration cap

  bug
underworldcode/underworld3#920 · Filter by author lmoresi opened on Nov 1, 2026

• In parallel, the add-on partition marks the base's finest level as an add-on level, so the fault is replayed onto a background level

  bug
underworldcode/underworld3#919 · Filter by author lmoresi opened on Nov 1, 2026

• The FAC cover gate declines a large fault patch silently, and the velocity solve then takes 14-22 times the iterations

  bug
underworldcode/underworld3#918 · Filter by author lmoresi opened on Nov 1, 2026

• test_0023 power-mean sharpness: changing yield_softness recompiled in one CI batch run (order and seed dependent)

  bug
underworldcode/underworld3#917 · Filter by author lmoresi opened on Oct 31, 2026

• Rotated solve past round-off fails its last linear solve; since #907 a time loop rebuilds its KSP every step

  bug
underworldcode/underworld3#911 · Filter by author lmoresi opened on Oct 31, 2026

• Warm rotated solve on the fast path fails at iteration 0 with no cause (pressure sub-KSP DTOL, then NaN)

  bug
underworldcode/underworld3#910 · Filter by author lmoresi opened on Oct 31, 2026

• Mesh.remesh: a collective call sits behind a rank-local guard in the variable transfer

  bug
underworldcode/underworld3#909 · Filter by author lmoresi opened on Oct 31, 2026

• Mesh(degree=2): the FVM cell-size call fails and its error is ignored, so a rank with no cells hangs the others

  bug
underworldcode/underworld3#908 · Filter by author lmoresi opened on Oct 31, 2026

• Rotated free-slip solve whose preconditioner fails returns v = 0 with only a warning

• Rotated free slip on a spherical shell with the default normal: the rotations are rejected and the answer carries a rigid rotation

• project_to_degree from a discontinuous field to a continuous one sums the adjacent cells

• Units: refuse an expression that mixes SI and non-dimensional factors before compiling or evaluating it

• petsc_dm_find_labeled_points_local returns [0] for a missing label; refinement callbacks then move vertex 0

  bug
underworldcode/underworld3#903 · Filter by author lmoresi opened on Oct 31, 2026

• custom_mg at np 32 and 52: the nested interpolation fails on preallocation, the FMG build falls back and the ranks deadlock

• Rotated free-slip annulus: the FMG coarse level is a dense SVD on one rank, so more ranks make the solve slower (caps kaiju at np 16)

• 39 parallel test files (tests/parallel/ptest_*.py) never run in CI, and the coverage check cannot see them

  bug
underworldcode/underworld3#900 · Filter by author lmoresi opened on Oct 30, 2026

• Direct-LU rotated path does not converge on a split-fault contact solve (slip 4-5% off)

  bug
underworldcode/underworld3#899 · Filter by author lmoresi opened on Oct 30, 2026

• remesh() leaves the multigrid hierarchy on the pre-remesh mesh: adapt() then raises or takes the old mesh as a level

  bug
underworldcode/underworld3#898 · Filter by author lmoresi opened on Oct 30, 2026

• solver.set_custom_fmg does not take the FAC keywords of custom_mg.set_custom_fmg

• FAC structural patch declined at np 2 on the linear fault fixture: 640 velocity iterations instead of 68

• FAC patch in 3-D: a split fault's structural block is one LU per rank (one block wins in 2-D; 3-D cost unmeasured)

• Rotated Newton loop with a fault interface law: the velocity multigrid keeps the first iterate's operator

• custom_mg: an unsplit placed-ribbon coarse tail exhausts node memory before the first iteration

• Rotated path: FAC patch blocks run ILU(0), not the configured LU
