Open VSX releases currently retry No trusted publisher matches the presented token six times, spending about 13 minutes on a configuration error. Stop on the first rejected trust exchange and print the exact extension, repository, workflow, environment, and recovery instructions. Drain captured publisher output before exiting so errors remain visible. Temporary registry errors retain the existing bounded retries.

Document maintainer bootstrap using an existing release VSIX. Install the pinned CLI with OVSX_PAT unset, then scope a temporary local token only to the installed publisher process. Follow with namespace ownership, Trusted Publisher registration, and a retry of only the failed Open VSX job. Public delivery still requires the Open VSX setup tracked in #1477; the namespace claim is EclipseFdn/open-vsx.org#15015.

Validation:

  • 10 focused publisher tests passed locally, covering errors on both output streams with 128 KiB of output each, fail-on-first-rejection across multiple packages, transient recovery for both registries, retry exhaustion, OIDC-only publishing, and packaging-only dispatch.
  • The documented bootstrap installation and pinned CLI completed a VSIX upload to a local stub registry with dummy credentials. No external publication was performed by this check.
  • Formatting and diff checks passed. Full validation runs in GitHub Actions.

For the v3.5.0 bootstrap, the Linux VSIX from run 41066712583 was verified byte-for-byte against the public Marketplace package (SHA-256 123869eb657039602a74c69c7d1fc3a477f42217a387d8f71f787380dcd8d08c).

Walkthrough

The Open VSX publishing script now exits without retrying when it detects a trusted-publisher mismatch. Tests cover this behavior and temporary failure retries. The release guide documents publisher setup and recovery steps.

Changes: Open VSX trusted-publisher recovery

Layer / File(s) Summary
Publisher failure handling and tests
tools/scripts/publish-editor-extensions.ts, tools/scripts/publish-editor-extensions.test.ts
The script captures and forwards publisher output, and stops retrying when Open VSX reports a trusted-publisher mismatch. Tests cover that response, temporary failures for both registries, and exhausted retries.
Maintainer setup and recovery guide
docs/content/release.md
The guide describes trusted-publisher setup, a local publish using a temporary token, rerunning the failed job, and checking the release version for four platform targets.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description covers the main intent: it states the problem (Open VSX retries on trusted-publisher rejection, about 13 minutes wasted), the fix (fail on first rejected trust exchange, print extension/repository/workflow/environment/recovery instructions, drain captured output), and the bootstrap documentation. It also lists validation steps and a verification hash. Several template items are not addressed: the Risk section (risk level, user or production impact, rollback plan) is missing entirely. The Summary section is present in substance but not under the template heading. The release and docs checklist is not ticked. The Validation section lists results but does not use the template checkboxes. Manual verification is claimed only against a local stub registry, and the edge-case section is partly covered by the tests described. Overall the description is mostly complete, but the missing Risk section is a required template part.

Resolution

Add a Risk section with the risk level (low, medium, or high), the user or production impact, and a rollback plan. Tick or annotate the Validation checkboxes (automated tests, manual verification, edge cases). Tick or annotate the Release and docs checklist items, including the configuration and observability notes for the new bootstrap steps and the CLI install with OVSX_PAT unset.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 2 functions across 2 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.
