Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Event sources now support connector-managed creation, updates, verification, delivery, and deletion. Interrupted operations can recover when processing resumes.
Gmail Poll runs can deliver a batch of unique events together.
Bug Fixes
Source changes and deletions are checked against active consumers and subscriptions, helping prevent unsafe changes.
Callback requests forward configured provider headers and query parameters. Busy sources can be retried during delivery.
Documentation
Added guidance on Poll batch behavior and connector operations.
Migration
Database upgrades stop when legacy event sources are present; resolve them before upgrading.
Walkthrough
The Server now uses Connector source references for Source lifecycle operations, callback routing, delivery, and resource changes. It persists Connector references and pending-operation state, and migration 54 rejects databases that contain legacy Sources. Connector requests support Source ingress and status-aware errors. The changes also add a Poll batch lab scenario and validation coverage. Poll remains on its existing batch contract.
The Poll capacity concern does not block merging: an overloaded Poll releases its claim and retries, while the updated Lab checks its effective configuration.

<excerpt>citeturn1search5 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: 4 days ago; Generated JSON Schema now says `"additionalProperties": true` | JSON Schema generation is open by default. | `{ onExcessProperty: "error" }`; refresh snapshots. ... Code from elsewhere fails with "Cannot find module" or missing exports | It was written for Effect 3 or imports a path that is not part of Effect 4. ... Calling a function that returns an Effect, placing an Effect inside `Effect.sync`, or constructing one inside an unreturned callback does not execute it. ... Defects come from `Effect.die(value)`, from `Effect.orDie`, from a rejection inside `Effect.promise`, and from any `throw` the runtime catches outside a `try` constructor — inside `Effect.sync`, an `Effect.map` callback, or the body of `Effect.gen`. ... declare const runBandImportPlugin: Effect.Effect<string, "BandFileMissing"> ... Effect.logError("band import plugin crashed", { message: defect.message }).pipe( ... : Effect.die(defect) // not ours: do not swallow an unknown bug
The fragment keeps the adapter short to show the channels. A production adapter also declares and forwards the `signal` that `Effect.tryPromise` offers — `try: (signal) => fetch(url, { signal })` — because without the parameter no `AbortController` is created and an interrupted fiber leaves the request running (Cancellable adapters).
When a boundary promotes a typed failure deliberately, `Effect.mapError` it into a descriptive `Error` first so the defect is diagnosable.
Use `Effect.exit` when success/failure should become data and `Effect.catchCause` when cleanup, reporting, or a true boundary must examine the complete cause. Do not catch every Cause and pretend interruption or defects are ordinary domain failures; doing so can prevent shutdown and hide bugs.

# Effect Library Development Patterns
## NEVER: try-catch in Effect.gen
REASON: Effect generators handle errors through the Effect type system, not JavaScript exceptions.
// ❌ WRONG - This will cause runtime errors
Effect.gen(function*() {
try {
const result = yield* someEffect
return result
} catch (error) {
// This will never be reached and breaks Effect semantics
console.error(error)
}
})
// ✅ CORRECT - Use Effect's built-in error handling
Effect.gen(function*() {
const result = yield* Effect.result(someEffect)
if (result._tag === "Failure") {
// Handle error case properly
console.error("Effect failed:", result.cause)
return yield* Effect.fail("Handled error")
}
return result.value
})
## return yield* Pattern for Errors
CRITICAL: Always use `return yield*` when yielding terminal effects.
// ✅ CORRECT - Makes termination explicit
Effect.gen(function*() {
if (invalidCondition) {
return yield* Effect.fail("Validation failed")
}
if (shouldInterrupt) {
return yield* Effect.interrupt
}
// Continue with normal flow
const result = yield* someOtherEffect
return result
})
// ❌ WRONG - Missing return keyword leads to unreachable code
Effect.gen(function*() {
if (invalidCondition) {
yield* Effect.fail("Validation failed") // Missing return!
// Unreachable code after error!
}
})
## `Effect.gen` and `Effect.fnUntraced`
Prefer `Effect.fnUntraced` over functions that only return `Effect.gen`.
// ❌ AVOID - Function only wraps Effect.gen
const fn = (param: string) =>
Effect.gen(function*() {
// ...
})
// ✅ PREFER - Reusable untraced Effect function
const fn = Effect.fnUntraced(function*(param: string) {
// ...
})
## When to Use What
Use `Effect.gen` when:
* Writing inline effect composition
* One-off operations that don't need to be reused
* Inside other functions already being traced
Use `Effect.fnUntraced` when:
* Building library implementations
* Performance is critical (hot paths)
* Function is called many times per operation
* Tracing overhead is unacceptable
## `Context.Service`
Prefer the class syntax when working with `Context.Service`.
import { Context } from "effect"
class MyService extends Context.Service<MyService, {
readonly doSomething: (input: string) => number
}>()("MyService") {}
You can’t perform that action at this time.</excerpt>

<excerpt>citeturn0search1 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: 2 weeks ago; Schema issues no longer carry a `toString()` (Effect-TS/effect#7093), so the Durable Object RPC server renders decode failures through `SchemaIssue.makeFormatterDefault()` like the rest of the codebase.
Schema issues no longer carry a `toString()` (Effect-TS/effect#7093), so the Durable Object RPC server renders decode failures through `SchemaIssue.makeFormatterDefault()` like the rest of the codebase. The `@effect/vitest` record-arbitrary workaround was dropped because Effect-TS/effect#7148 fixed it upstream (#1557).
* Effect rc.113 API burndown: Replaced the removed MessagePack RPC layer with `SchemaBinary`, migrated sockets to the pull reader and scoped writer APIs, and updated CLI constructors and schema transformations to their rc.113 names. The FastCheck-based `Vitest.asProp` helper was removed; use `Vitest.live.prop` with `arbitrary` options (#1606).
* Tooling: Shell entry no longer runs the full TypeScript build after dependency and generated-source setup. The shared Effect-utils `otel:profile:setup` task captures the strict setup graph through native devenv tracing and `otelite`; `otel:verify:setup` gates the connected trace shape without a repository-local orchestration module (#1402).
* Tooling: Unit-test failures now block merges. The `test-unit` job ran `packages/@livestore/webmesh` and `tests/package-common` through `Effect.ignore` on CI, so their failures produced a passing required check. Removing that also restores the intent-layer invariant suite as a real gate on `context/` changes (#1404).
* Tooling: The DevTools Playwright suite is currently broken (0/15) and carries a declared, expiring quarantine entry instead of an unrecorded `|| echo` wrapper. Its check does not gate merges yet — the quarantine records the failure with a reason, an issue, and an expiry date rather than hiding it (#1489).
* Tooling: Cloudflare sync-provider failures now block merges. All six `cf-*` matrix cells previously exited 0 on failure, which is why the Durable Object hibernation guards could not gate merges (#1404).

Return the capacity error through the Effect failure channel.
When the capacity condition is met, the direct throw inside Effect.gen becomes a defect. Effect.catch does not handle defects, so #failPoll can be skipped.

Restore the existing Poll business contract after #790: the 10 affected
providers keep `definitionVersion: 2`, output `events[]`, and build
outputs from the complete event sequence. Source ownership changes must
not split a batch into one Run per event.
Provider configuration, polling/checkpoint logic, Source persistence and
callback handling remain unchanged. The corresponding Open Flow
correction removes the v3 execution and upgrade paths:
oomol-lab/open-flow#160.
Validation:
- `npm run fix-check`, catalog generation and all 21,053 action examples
passed.
- Trigger runtime, provider contracts and shared conformance: 58 tests
passed.
- Runtime package build passed.
- Cross-repository validation passed; all 10 Poll snapshots exactly
match the Open Flow definitions before the architecture change.
- Open Flow root `bun run check` passed before commit.
No deployment was performed. Deploy this correction before switching
Open Flow to the new Source reference protocol.
