mangobar is a Wayland status bar for
mangowm, built on wlr-layer-shell.
It reads all of its runtime settings from JSONC and CSS; there are no
hard-coded module defaults beyond the sample files below.
mangobar reads its configuration from these locations, in order of precedence:
| File | Env var override | Default location |
|---|---|---|
| Bar / module configuration | $MANGOBAR_CONFIG |
~/.config/mangobar/config.jsonc |
| Styling (CSS) | $MANGOBAR_CSS |
~/.config/mangobar/style.css |
Tip: the repository ships working examples to copy as a starting point:
config.jsoncandstyle.css.example.
mkdir -p ~/.config/mangobar
cp config.jsonc ~/.config/mangobar/config.jsonc
cp style.css.example ~/.config/mangobar/style.cssRun mangobar inside a mangowm session:
mangobarUseful flags: -h prints the usage, -v prints the version, and
-c <path> / -s <path> point the bar at a specific config or CSS file
(these take precedence over the locations above):
mangobar -c ~/alt/config.jsonc -s ~/alt/style.cssThe bar appears automatically and picks up the config and style files above. See Installation for build and package-manager options, Configuration for every bar/module option, and Styling for the CSS side. Running multiple monitors with a different bar on each one is covered in Multi-Monitor Configuration.
