Minus Wiki

Welcome to the official Minus wiki — the user guide and the "how does it actually work" reference for the app.

Minus is a calculator-style budget tracker. You type an amount, tap the checkmark, and the app immediately tells you how much you can still spend today, this week, this biweek or this month. Everything runs on your device — no account, no server, no sync.

The offline-first philosophy

Minus is built with privacy at its core. Your data is yours:

  • Every expense, budget and setting is stored only on your device (a local SQLite database plus app preferences).
  • The app has no network code. The FOSS build declares no INTERNET permission at all, and there are no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
  • There is no account, no cloud sync and no telemetry. If you switch phones, you move your data yourself with the CSV backup (see Data Handling and Privacy).
  • Optional privacy extras: a privacy mode that blurs every amount on screen, and biometric confirmation before editing expenses from past periods.

Get the app

Minus ships as two APK variants on every release:

Variant Where Notes
FOSS IzzyOnDroid, GitHub Releases No Google Play Services. No Wear OS bridge.
WearOS GitHub Releases (Minus-WearOS-vX.Y.Z.apk), Google Play Includes the phone ↔ watch sync bridge, which needs Google Play Services.

Both variants share the same features otherwise. See Wear OS Companion for the difference in detail.

Contributing & translations

  • Bugs and ideas: open an issue or use Settings → Found a bug? inside the app, which packs the details (and an error log) into an email for you.
  • Code: read the Contributing Guidelines and the Project Overview for the architecture (Jetpack Compose, MVI, Hilt, Room, WorkManager + AlarmManager).
  • Translations: Minus is available in 13 languages through Crowdin. Any help checking or fixing translations is appreciated.
