Adds MinerU as a self-hosted OCR provider (OCR_PROVIDER=mineru). MinerU pairs layout detection with a vision-language model. It handles tables, headings, captions, headers and footers well, which suits multi-page documents with complex layouts, such as bank and account statements.
The provider uses the MinerU 4.x V1 parsing API: upload, create a parse job, poll it, then download structured_content. It assembles the result into searchable text:
Headers, footers and page numbers are kept for search.
HTML tables become one row per line.
Embedded images are dropped.
HTML entities are decoded.

Seconds per provider call. This is per page in image/pdf mode and per document in whole_pdf mode
All three OCR_PROCESS_MODEs work. whole_pdf is recommended, so that MinerU sees the whole document in one job.
MinerU returns no hOCR, so PDF generation is skipped, as for other text-only providers.
Robustness
A MinerU server is often a GPU box that may be busy, restarting or behind a proxy, so the provider is defensive about failures:
Abandoned jobs are cancelled. If polling stops before the job finishes (timeout, cancellation, repeated poll failures), the provider sends DELETE /v1/parse/jobs/{id}, so an abandoned parse doesn't hold the GPU while retries queue up behind it. The cancel is best effort: it runs on a fresh 5 s context and never replaces the original error.
Retries:
Idempotent calls retry 5xx responses.
Polling also tolerates transport errors and 429.
Polling fails at once on any other 4xx (job_not_found, 401, 403).
A 2xx response that carries an error body is treated as a failure.
An unknown job status fails immediately instead of polling until the deadline.
Bounded reads: error bodies are read up to 16 KiB and successful bodies up to 256 MiB.
URL handling:
MINERU_URL must be http(s), with a host, a valid port and no query or fragment.
A path prefix such as a reverse-proxy subpath is kept, including for upload URLs that MinerU returns as absolute paths.
The URL is only ever logged or reported in redacted form (redactURL), so credentials in it never reach the logs, including the fatal startup error.
Credentials: the API key is only sent to MINERU_URL's own origin.
Early rejection: unsupported input formats are rejected before upload.
Changes
ocr/mineru_provider.go: the provider. ocr/provider.go adds the config fields and the NewProvider case.
main.go: reads and validates MINERU_*, and adds mineru to the supported mode table.
env_registry.go: adds the MINERU_* entries, and OCR_PROVIDER now lists every provider (ADR 0002).
config_view.go: MINERU_URL is scrubbed like the other URL settings.
README.md: compose example, a "MinerU" provider section, and env table rows.
go.mod: golang.org/x/net moves from indirect to direct (used for html parsing of MinerU's table blocks).
There are no frontend changes.
Testing
Unit tests use only httptest, testing and testify, with no network access or real MinerU server. They cover:
the upload → job → poll → download flow in each mode
text assembly (tables, entities, images, headers and footers)
unknown job statuses and error bodies in 2xx responses
upload URLs with a path prefix
URL validation and redaction
bounded body reads
immediate failure on a permanent 4xx while polling
job cancellation on timeout, on cancellation, and after repeated poll failures, with the original error kept
go test ./..., go test -race ./ocr/, go vet ./... and gofmt -l . are all clean on every commit.
The request and response shapes were checked against the MinerU 4.0.11 server source (mineru/parser/api_server.py).
An earlier revision of this branch has been running in a self-hosted paperless-ngx setup against a MinerU 4.x server on an NVIDIA GPU, with OCR_PROCESS_MODE=whole_pdf. The hardening above (job cancellation, URL validation, bounded reads, failing fast on 4xx) was added after that and is covered by the unit tests, but has not yet been run against a live server.

Walkthrough
Adds MinerU as an OCR provider with API configuration, supported processing modes, and startup validation. The provider uploads supported files, creates and polls parse jobs, downloads structured content, and returns extracted text with metadata.
Adds MinerU settings and provider selection, URL validation and redaction, tier and timeout defaults, and documentation for configuration and supported modes.
Implements file uploads, parse-job creation and polling, retry and cancellation behavior, and bounded HTTP responses. Tests cover request flows, errors, redirects, timeouts, and cancellation.
Structured-content decoding and text assembly ocr/mineru_provider.go, ocr/mineru_provider_test.go, ocr/mineru_edge_cases_test.go
Decodes structured content and assembles text from document blocks, including tables, titles, captions, and footnotes. Tests cover irregular fields, HTML tables, and image-data removal.

Adds an OCR provider for a self-hosted MinerU 4.x server, using its V1
parsing API: upload the page or document, create a parse job, poll it, and
download structured_content. The blocks are assembled into searchable text:
headers, footers and page numbers are kept, HTML tables become one row per
line, embedded images are dropped, and HTML entities are decoded in every
text block. Unsupported input formats are rejected before upload, and an
unknown job status fails at once rather than polling until the deadline.
It works in all three OCR_PROCESS_MODEs. MinerU returns no hOCR, so the
caller skips PDF generation as it does for other text-only providers.
Behaviour against an unhealthy or misconfigured server:
- When polling stops before the job settles (timeout, caller cancellation,
repeated poll failures), the job is cancelled with
DELETE /v1/parse/jobs/{id}, so an abandoned parse does not keep the GPU
busy ahead of the retries queued after it. The cancel is best effort, on
a fresh 5s context, and never replaces the original error.
- Idempotent calls retry 5xx responses. Polling also tolerates transport
errors and 429, but fails at once on any other 4xx (job_not_found, 401,
403), which polling again cannot fix.
- A 2xx response that carries an error body is treated as a failure.
- Error bodies are read up to 16 KiB and successful bodies up to 256 MiB,
so a proxy streaming a huge error page cannot exhaust memory.
- MINERU_URL must be http(s), with a host, an in-range port and no query or
fragment, since API paths are appended to it. A path prefix is kept,
including for rooted upload URLs. The URL is logged and reported only
through redactURL (no userinfo, query or fragment), so credentials in it
never reach the logs, including the fatal startup error.
- The API key is sent only to MINERU_URL's own origin.

OCR_PROVIDER=mineru selects the provider. MINERU_URL is required;
MINERU_API_KEY (a secret), MINERU_TIER (default standard) and
MINERU_TIMEOUT (default 600 seconds, must be positive) are optional. The
timeout applies to each provider call: per page in the image and pdf
OCR_PROCESS_MODEs, per document only in whole_pdf.
The settings are listed in the env registry, MINERU_URL is scrubbed like
the other URL settings in the config view, and the OCR_PROVIDER
description now names every provider.

Adds MinerU to the compose example, a section on running it against a
self-hosted MinerU server, and the MINERU_* rows to the environment table.
The MINERU_TIMEOUT description says it applies per page outside whole_pdf
mode, so it is not sized for a whole document. The OCR_PROVIDER row lists
every provider, in the same order as the env registry.
