felipealfonsog/README.md

Hi there! 👋

I'm Felipe, a Computer Science Engineer (Ingº en Informática) from Santiago, Chile, working across OSS Engineering, Systems Architecture, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, Cyber Intelligence, OSINT, Cyber Counter-Terrorism, and R&D. I design and maintain secure, resilient, high-impact systems—driven by continuous learning, independent research, professional certifications, and long-term exploration across systems, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies. I also contribute as a maintainer in the GitHub community, constantly exploring new ideas and advancing my knowledge across disciplines.

I still keep my late-90s/early-2000s-era Perl book — The “Camel Book” (~1,000+ pages my well-worn copy) — a reminder of long nights with coffee, dim light, and room-heating computers with painfully bad CRT screens, when computers were heavy tower cases — not millimeters-thin devices. That was my era: experimenting with Ethernet network cables in my bedroom, running multiple rigs, giving old hardware a second life with Mandrake Linux. Later, I carried that obsession into engineering school.

Some of my earliest engineering memories are IRC nights, SSH sessions, and multi-user Linux systems — learning by building, breaking, and fixing. Forged through Linux the hard way: compiling kernels, hacking connectivity, and learning through friction — not convenience.

Back in the early 2000s, I once served as the sysadmin for a small newspaper: the owner handed me cash, I bought the server in San Miguel, took a taxi to downtown Santiago, and walked through Calle Moneda in Santiago carrying that machine in my arms to a data center for installation. The network team allowed me to run Mandrake Linux on it — and I maintained the whole thing myself via SSH: Apache, ops, uptime, and survival. Before Facebook existed, I built the newspaper platform too — including threaded discussions in the publications, mixing CGI with PHP and other early-web craftsmanship. In those early 2000s days, I come from the old school: moving files with SCP between machines, running PostgreSQL in pure terminal (no GUI) — just psql, logs, and uptime.

I still remember nights in Santiago working inside the Palacio de La Moneda, learning Postgres from my mentor, Dario Riquelme Zornow, in a server hall until 5 AM — walls of terminals, live data, Vim everywhere, Fluxbox on the desktop. That was my training ground. In that same era, Smith Saavedra and Mauricio Alberto Robles were also incredible mentors. I’m still grateful for that mentorship. That era, those mentors — that’s where my engineering was forged.

Rooted in the UNIX lineage: heavy FreeBSD years, and early macOS back when it still carried the spirit of NeXTSTEP. From Perl nights with a book on my lap to early web stacks (Flash, ColdFusion), my engineering mindset was forged before AI, before shortcuts. Linux remains my lab, my server backbone, and my home.

Beyond engineering, I explore philosophy and contemplative traditions through rigorous study and long-term practice. I study Zen Buddhism deeply as both a philosophical and existential discipline, maintaining a committed Zazen practice centered on introspection, presence, silence, and direct observation of consciousness and reality. I also explore themes related to consciousness, symbolism, and Freemasonry, seeking meaning, clarity, and truth through reflective study and disciplined inner work. I enjoy reading and writing (Goodreads), playing bass guitar (jazz/blues), practicing BJJ), listening to music (Spotify), and supporting animals and nature through ethical advocacy, including PETA. As a former Ranger / Rover Scout Leader of the Agrupación Nacional de Boy Scouts de Chile, I uphold their mission and values as part of my own principles.

Throughout my life, I have lived, worked, and studied internationally — including New Delhi; an extended multi-year period in New Zealand (Auckland and Christchurch); California; a brief period in Zürich; and another extended multi-year period in Cape Town, South Africa. These experiences strengthened my adaptability across cultures and professional environments, and gave me fluency in English, Afrikaans, and French, in addition to my native Spanish. Feel free to reach out in any of these languages.

Integrity, transparency, and coherence shape both my work and my personal journey. I act with purpose—where values meet impact—and I seek truth in the silence that moves us forward.

If you harbor aspirations in business, entrepreneurship, consultancy, research, or collaboration, do not hesitate to reach out. Should you be in Santiago, I would be delighted to engage in a thoughtful conversation over coffee ☕️ 💬 or online. You can find my contact information here, visit my LinkedIn, my X (Twitter), at felipe.gnlz.clgnlz.cl, here, my Telegram or just 📨 email-me.

Ensō

Ensō (円相) is a hand-drawn minimalist circle created with one or two fluid brushstrokes in the traditions of Zen Buddhism and Japanese calligraphy. It is one of the most recognizable symbols of Zen and is characterized by a minimalism deeply influenced by Zen philosophy and Japanese aesthetics.

The ensō symbolizes absolute enlightenment, strength, elegance, the universe, the Dharmadhātu (the totality of reality), and mu (emptiness or no-thingness). It is often understood as an expression of completeness, the boundless nature of existence, and the unity underlying all things.

Traditionally painted in a single spontaneous gesture, the ensō cannot be altered once the brush leaves the paper. For this reason, each circle serves as a direct reflection of the artist's spirit, mind, and state of being at that exact moment.

An empty circle also appears in the Ten Ox-Herding Pictures, a classic set of illustrations depicting the stages of Zen training and realization.

▮ Strategic Cyber Intelligence & Counter-Terrorism Operations — Restricted

My work spans the analysis of hostile digital infrastructures, the profiling of adversarial behavior, and the identification of coordinated threat patterns that intersect with national-level cyber operations.

I focus on dissecting advanced intrusion chains, mapping threat actor ecosystems, and evaluating high-risk signals that emerge within hybrid digital-physical environments — including those relevant to counter-terrorism intelligence.

Operational areas of involvement include:

  • Adversary behavioral analysis & TTP correlation
  • Infrastructure tracking across multi-layered threat surfaces
  • Early-phase detection of coordinated digital aggression
  • High-risk intelligence assessment in cross-domain scenarios
  • Strategic modeling of threat actor capabilities & intent

Due to the nature of this domain, all operational specifics, methodologies, and classified tooling remain deliberately omitted.

"The time of humanity is but a sigh in the life of the universe. We are merely spectators of something immense." ~ José Maza

"A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked." ~ Gall's Law

📜 More quotes and additional reflections.

"Ideals are like stars; you will not succeed in touching them with your hands. But like the seafaring man on the desert of waters, you choose them as your guides, and following them you will reach your destiny." ~ Carl Schurz

"Truth is lived, not taught." ~ Brother Herman Hesse

"Time flies over us, but leaves its shadow behind." ~ Nathaniel Hawthorne

"We must cultivate, all of us, a certain ignorance, a certain blindness, or society will not be tolerable." ~ J.M. Coetzee, Disgrace

"The time is the matter of which I have been created." ~ Nicanor Parra

"You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even when it leads you off the well worn path; and that will make all the difference." ~ Steve Jobs [Stanford commencement speech, June 2005]

"In a cold and ruthless world, all that remains is to thole, persevere and withstand, hold back the tears, and remember that we are nothing more than a whisper in the vastness, an echo that will fade. Nothing of what we possess, nothing of what we believe ourselves to be, will endure… except that which, in the intimacy of ritual and introspection, we forge within ourselves. And not even that. Still, in the deepest darkness, we must learn to rise with an unbreakable will, for only in that acceptance —in that descent to the threshold of the void, where the soul faces its own shadow— can we carve our consciousness into something higher, more worthy… something that transcends." ~ Felipe Alfonso González L.

Custom Spotify telemetry engineered by the repository author, built on the Spotify Developer API and automated through GitHub Actions to render live playback data within the GitHub profile environment.

What is shown as playing on Spotify in this repository is powered by two sources: the visual card is rendered using the Spotify Now Playing Card project, while the CLI-style telemetry is obtained directly through my own Spotify Developer API integration, executed via automated workflows, with data provided by Spotify ©. Data may contain discrepancies or inaccuracies due to limitations, caching, or transient issues within Spotify’s platform or related services.
