Shore & Beach Journal Web App

This is the official web app for the Shore & Beach Journal by the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA).

Installation and Deployment

Prerequisites

• Web hosting service (GitHub Pages, ASBPA hosting, etc.)
• Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS/JavaScript
• Image editing software for creating app icons (if needed)

Deployment Steps

For GitHub Pages:

1. Create a new GitHub repository
2. Upload all the files from this project to the repository
3. Go to repository Settings > Pages
4. Select the branch you want to deploy (usually main)
5. Click Save, and your site will be published at https://yourusername.github.io/repository-name/

For ASBPA Hosting:

1. Connect to your web hosting using FTP or the provided file manager
2. Create a new directory for the app (e.g., journal or app)
3. Upload all files from this project to that directory
4. The app will be accessible at https://asbpa.org/your-directory-name/

Important Files

• index.html - Main page with the three main functions
• photo-submission.html - Photo submission form
• manifest.json - Web app manifest for PWA functionality
• sw.js - Service worker for offline capabilities
• icons/ directory - Contains all app icons (needs to be created)

Creating App Icons

Before deployment, you need to create app icons in various sizes as specified in the manifest.json file:

• 72x72
• 96x96
• 128x128
• 144x144
• 152x152
• 192x192
• 384x384
• 512x512 You can use the ASBPA logo or a custom Shore & Beach Journal logo as the base for these icons.

PWA Features

This web app includes Progressive Web App (PWA) features:

• Installable on mobile devices and desktops
• Works offline using cached resources
• App-like experience with full-screen mode
• Custom icons and splash screens

Customization

• To change the recipient email address, modify the recipient parameter in the requestGPT calls in both index.html and photo-submission.html
• To update the journal access URL, modify the journalUrl variable in index.html
• To change colors, modify the CSS variables in the :root selector in both HTML files
