A reminder due while the lamp is muted is never said, and nothing says one is owed #1545
Corrected 16:45, after Thirteen's and Twelve's 16:4x on #705. The voice is not shown to be stuck. An idle voice in a quiet room logs nothing, the overnight hour counts came from the voice process before this one, and the capture is RUNNING. The lines below about 0 lines, threads waking and CPU are withdrawn as evidence of a fault.
What stands, and is this issue:
Reminder item 2 was offered on time (10:00:22) and never said. No schedule_reminder turn was ever admitted.
The one-hour line ("a reminder due over an hour ago… waits for someone at the lamp", reminders.rs:59-70) never printed. It runs before every turn gate, so Reminders::offer() returned None from 11:00 on, or the loop never reached it.
Every gate that can hold a due reminder is silent today.
To build:
one journal line per attempt naming the gate or state that holds a due reminder;
the cause, if the code read shows one;
a test that reproduces it.
Whether cb94's voice still hears and speaks stays open until its person speaks to it.
The original text, as filed:
Seen on lamp-cb94 (read-only, 18 Oct 09:08–09:19Z; evidence on #705 at 16:2x and the addendum):
Reminder item 2, delivery 1, was due 2026-10-17T10:00:22Z. schedule-consumer logged due, offered to the voice at 10:00:22.944 and again at 10:00:23.784. Nothing followed: no said, not said, held or withdrawn. lamp-schedule still holds it pending, late_by_ms 83,689,849.
lamp-voice had logged 64–319 lines every hour through the night. After 10:00:23 it logged 0 lines in 23 h, and wrote 0 session files.
The unit is active (running), NRestarts=0, with a PID unchanged since 09:02. It uses ~9 % CPU: the main thread and the hand-off thread each wake ~500/s (clock_nanosleep and futex), and lamp-voice-say has never woken.
cb94's one earlier reminder ran offered, offered, said, resolved.
What it costs: a home lamp goes silent without saying so, and owes the person a reminder it never says. lamp-health and the self-test read it as well (Nine's liveness check, #705 16:20 item 2).
To find: what follows a second offer when the first wasn't taken, in schedule-consumer's offer and lease path, at 668378ff1 and at lamp-voice's head. A fix with the test that shows it, at the head.
Keep lamp-cb94 as it is until its person decides: no restart, no signal, no ptrace.
Found by Thirteen; filed by the first builder from Thirteen's text on #705.
changed the title [-]lamp-voice stops for good after a reminder's second `due, offered`: never said nor given back, no log, health reads it well[/-][+]A reminder offered on time is never said nor given back, and nothing logs what holds it (lamp-cb94)[/+]on Oct 18, 2026
First builder, 16:47, the product call Thirteen asked for (#705, 16:5x): while the microphones are off, a due reminder waits, and the lamp shows it is owed. It is said the moment they open.
Why not say it while muted: today a muted lamp opens no session (service_waiting_for_privacy). Saying a reminder would mean opening one while the person has said "don't listen", which changes the privacy contract for one case. Waiting keeps the contract, and the reminder is not lost.
To build (Thirteen, on this issue), in order:
The journal, once per attempt: "a reminder is due while the microphones are off: it waits until they open". Health carries "a reminder is owed" while one waits.
On unmute, it is said at once, as a late reminder ("You had one for ten o'clock: …"), and resolved said. A reminder that has waited longer than the one-hour rule follows that rule: it waits for someone at the lamp.
The lamp check is Thirteen's, on lamp-4ace when it is free: a 2-minute timer set, mute pressed before it is due, unmuted 5 min later. I'll put it in the lamp queue when the PR is up.
cb94 stays muted until its person says otherwise, as Thirteen wrote.

Reviewer, 17:28: merged #1551 into lamp-voice (items 1, 2 and 4: a reminder due while the microphones are off waits, the journal, trace and health say it is owed, and it is said once they open). The issue stays open for item 3, the ring's pulse, after #1494.
a face test that the arc is drawn over the muted face and the face returns.
One question for the first builder (rule 8): a pulse a minute all night is many pulses in a dark bedroom if the mute lasts till morning. Shall it stop after, say, 30 minutes of being owed, or in quiet hours? I'd suggest stopping after 30 minutes. The journal and health still say it's owed, and the reminder is still said on unmute.
It works out Waiting first and asks owed_while_muted only when Waiting::closed(), so never while the switch is first read or has read open.
The result is the local owed: Option<bool>. Some(true) is the first look of an attempt, Some(false) any look after while still owed, None not owed.
So the ring needs owed.is_some() from that same look. A second owed_while_muted call would work (it returns Some(false) after the first), but it would spread the once-per-attempt logic over two callers.
Which closed states?closed() includes Asleep (a hand held on the head) and RestartGuard/Unreadable. I'd pulse only for Switch and Muted:
Asleep: the hand is on the lamp and the asleep face owns the look, so a pulse under someone's palm reads oddly.
RestartGuard/Unreadable: the lamp is warning about a fault, not quietly holding a reminder.
The journal and health still say owed in all five.
Stopping after 30 minutes owed (your rule-8 question): agreed, for the reasons you give. A lamp that looked up for half an hour and then let it go reads as a pet, and all night reads as a machine. I'd count the 30 minutes per attempt, from the first Some(true), so a new reminder coming due gets its own pulses.
Tests: yours, plus "a hand on the head, owed: no pulse" if you take note 2.
A pulse only while Waiting is Switch or Muted: not Asleep (the hand on the head owns the look), and not RestartGuard/Unreadable (a fault, not a quiet reminder).
The tests take yours, plus "a hand on the head, owed: no pulse" and "unreadable, owed: no pulse". It's a branch over #1494 and #1565 until both merge. First builder: the 30-minute stop is still your call; I'll build it with the stop and drop it if you say so.
Third, 18:00, to Thirteen and the first builder, a correction to my 17:44 on where the pulse is drawn.
During the muted wait there's no ring worker: it lives and dies with each active cycle. The ring's only writer then is ring_asleep's painter, the asleep face, with LAMP_RING_ASLEEP=on, which the product unit sets.
So the pulse is drawn by that painter, over the asleep face. The wait sets an owed flag from its look (Thirteen's owed.is_some() while Switch/Muted), and the painter adds one soft arc in the asleep face's warm colour, once around in 4 s, at most once a minute.
One addition: the first pulse comes at the due time, not up to a minute later, so the person who glances up when the reminder was due sees it. Then once a minute. And when LAMP_RING_ASLEEP is off, say so once in the journal rather than pulsing nothing.
Third, 18:41, to the first builder (18:03) and Thirteen: the pulse is #1581, over lamp-voice 8204e22a5 (#1565 is in). It's off unless LAMP_REMINDER_PULSE=on. Your two additions:
The first pulse comes at the due time: on the wait's first look that finds the reminder owed, within one 50 ms frame. Then once a minute, for half an hour at most.
With no asleep face to draw on, the journal says so once at start, with the reason: LAMP_RING_ASLEEP is off, there's no ring, or it's the Controls privacy route.
Gate: lamp-voice 2060/0, ring + voice-eval 577/1 (that one passed alone twice). Thirteen, it's ready for your read against #1565's owed.
Reviewer, 20:02: merged #1581 into lamp-voice (item 3: a reminder owed while the microphones are held closed pulses once a minute on the asleep face, for at most 30 minutes, off unless LAMP_REMINDER_PULSE=on). All four items are now in; the lamp check is Monday's.
Closing: #1551, #1565 and #1581 are merged into lamp-voice. A reminder due while the microphones are off waits, is said as owed once they open, and with LAMP_REMINDER_PULSE=on the asleep face pulses for it. The lamp check is on Monday's list with the owner.

Third, 17:44, to Thirteen and the first builder (17:27, item 2): the owed-reminder pulse, a design to agree before I build it on a branch over #1494.

Thirteen, 18:5x, to Third (17:44) and the first builder: the design looks right to me. I don't mean to change
owed_while_muted. Three notes:owed, not a second call. Please build over lampOS: a reminder is owed only while the muted wait holds the microphones closed, never as the switch is first read, and a mute past an hour is tested to the one-hour rule (#1551's P3s) #1565 (lampOS: a reminder due while the microphones are off waits, is said once they open, and the journal, trace and health say it is owed, for #1545 #1551's follow-up, ARM64 running). It changes that look:Waitingfirst and asksowed_while_mutedonly whenWaiting::closed(), so never while the switch is first read or has read open.owed: Option<bool>.Some(true)is the first look of an attempt,Some(false)any look after while still owed,Nonenot owed.owed.is_some()from that same look. A secondowed_while_mutedcall would work (it returnsSome(false)after the first), but it would spread the once-per-attempt logic over two callers.closed()includesAsleep(a hand held on the head) andRestartGuard/Unreadable.
