What's the issue you encountered?
I'm currently writing a MS coff object file parser and looking at the generated object code with ImHex.
After compilation, ImHex correctly notices the file has been changed and shows a banner:
File has been modified by a external source. Do you want to reload it? [Reload]
Pressing the Reload button in the banner causes invalid data to be shown in the hex editor.
Selecting random things in the hex editor, causes it to change, but not to the correct values (verified with xxd).
How can the issue be reproduced?
- Compile a simple
.c source to an object file (e.g. cl -c -Zi a.c)
- Open
a.obj with ImHex (keep the program active)
- Modify
a.c. e.g. add int a_very_long_external_value = 0x1337;
- Compile the source again:
cl -c -Zi a.c
- ImHex should notify the file has changed, press the reload button
- Notice the contents is invalid
