WHY

Resolves #22305

Jsonify datasets are maintained tables from the live web (scheduled, self-repairing pipelines). This adds the app so workflows can read them and react to changes without an HTTP + code step.

Summary by component

App jsonify (no auth; the dataset serve URL is the credential, marked secret)

  • serveUrl, columns, filters, version, timer prop definitions
  • getPage and an async paginate helper over has_more/next_offset, pinning version after the first page so a republish mid-run can't mix versions

Action jsonify-get-dataset-rows

  • Returns {dataset, dataset_name, table, version, updated_at, row_count, rows}
  • Column selection, exact-match filters (AND), version pinning, optional max results

Source jsonify-new-dataset-version (polling)

  • Emits once when the dataset's version increases; stores last seen version in $.service.db

Source jsonify-new-rows-in-dataset (polling, dedupe: unique on _row_id)

  • On deploy, records all current _row_ids and emits up to 25 existing rows
  • On each run after a new version, emits rows whose _row_id was not present before

Testing

Run against a public demo dataset (no account needed): https://factory.jsonify.com/api/serve/6332465e4d05. Action with filter competitor=Klue and columns=[competitor,page] returns 6 rows; maxResults=5 caps at 5; version source emits once per bump; rows source emits 0 on an unchanged version and only forgotten ids after a bump.

Drafted with Claude Code following the apify and rss component patterns; reviewed and run by me.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added Jsonify support for retrieving dataset rows with pagination, filters, column selection, versioning, and result limits.
    • Added event sources for detecting dataset version changes and newly added rows.
    • Added options to emit existing rows and configure columns and filters.
  • Documentation
    • Added setup and usage guidance for scheduled pipelines, self-repairing datasets, serve URLs, and example workflows.
    • Noted that serve URLs contain credentials and should be kept private.

Adds the Jsonify app with one action and two polling sources.

- get-dataset-rows: returns rows from a dataset serve URL with column
  selection, exact-match filters, version pinning and a max-results cap;
  pages through the endpoint with has_more/next_offset
- new-dataset-version: emits when the dataset publishes a new version
- new-rows-in-dataset: emits each row whose _row_id was not present on
  the previous version

No auth app: the dataset serve URL is the credential and is marked secret.
Tested against a public demo dataset.

📝 Walkthrough

This pull request adds a Jsonify integration with an action to retrieve dataset rows and sources that emit events for new dataset versions or rows. It also adds shared pagination and source support, package metadata, and setup documentation.

Changes: Jsonify dataset integration

Layer / File(s) Summary
Dataset query and row retrieval
components/jsonify/jsonify.app.mjs, components/jsonify/common/utils.mjs, components/jsonify/common/constants.mjs, components/jsonify/actions/get-dataset-rows/get-dataset-rows.mjs, components/jsonify/package.json, components/jsonify/README.md
Adds configurable dataset queries and paginated retrieval. The action returns dataset metadata, a row count, and collected rows. The package manifest and README describe the integration and serve URL.
Shared source support
components/jsonify/sources/common/base.mjs
Adds shared source properties and methods for fetching dataset metadata and storing the last-seen version and row IDs.
Dataset change sources
components/jsonify/sources/new-dataset-version/new-dataset-version.mjs, components/jsonify/sources/new-rows-in-dataset/new-rows-in-dataset.mjs
Adds deployment initialization and polling for newer dataset versions. Adds row tracking and runtime emission for rows with unseen _row_id values. Supports configurable columns, filters, and initial row emission.

Explanation

Issue [#22305] requires one dataset-rows action and two polling sources. The action implements columns, exact-match filters, version selection, pagination, and max results. The source definitions implement version and _row_id tracking, but sources/common/base.mjs calls this.jsonify.getPage() without the active Pipedream $ context. getPage() then defaults $ to the Jsonify app object and passes that object to axios. Therefore, both sources use an invalid HTTP execution context in their deploy and run paths.

Resolution

Pass the active source context to getPage() from getHead(), such as this.jsonify.getPage({ $, ... }) with getHead($ = this.$), or otherwise ensure that each source request passes this.$ to axios. Add automated coverage for source deploy and run HTTP requests.

Move buildParams to common/utils.mjs.

buildParams does not use this. It is a generic query-parameter builder. The path instructions require such helpers in common/utils.mjs, and methods should hold only API operations and request helpers.

Create components/jsonify/common/utils.mjs, export buildParams there, import it in the app file, and call it from getPage.

As per path instructions: "generic, this-free helpers (parsing, formatting, payload cleaning) belong in common/utils.mjs".

Access seenIds through private _getSeenIds() and _setSeenIds() methods.

deploy() and run() call this.db.get("seenIds") and this.db.set("seenIds", ...) directly. The path instructions require private _getX() and _setX() methods for $.service.db state. The shared getLastVersion and setLastVersion methods in sources/common/base.mjs also lack the underscore prefix.

Thanks for the review. Pushed 657b68d addressing the CodeRabbit comments:

  • Moved query-param building into common/utils.mjs (buildParams) and added JSDoc to getPage and paginate
  • paginate checks max before each yield, so maxResults: 0 returns no rows
  • Get Dataset Rows keeps dataset metadata when no rows match (falls back to a limit: 1 page for metadata)
  • Sources use named db helpers (_getLastVersion/_setLastVersion, _getSeenIds/_setSeenIds)
  • Prop descriptions now include examples, and version points to Get Dataset Rows to find the current version
  • Added ai: "optimized" and an agent-oriented description to the action

$ = this in getPage is left as is; it is the standard app-method default used across components.

Re-ran against the public demo dataset: filters, column selection, maxResults (including 0), a no-match filter, and both sources.

Keep the source ID within the 64-character dedupe limit.

run() reaches generateMeta() for each new version. If a supported dataset/version pair makes ${head.dataset}-${head.version} longer than 64 characters, unique deduplication stops working. Hash the composite to a deterministic 64-character ID. Keep the original fields in the event payload.

Name the source of filter column names.

The keys in filters are dataset-specific column names. Add a reference to Get Dataset Rows so an agent can discover valid keys before it builds a filter.

As per path instructions: “For IDs, keys, slugs, or any value the caller cannot know up front,” the description must name the bold tool name that returns it.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Skip polling events when the dataset has no version.

Jsonify returns version: null before a dataset publishes. (jsonify.com) When deploy() stores that value, each poll bypasses the comparison with last and emits an event for a null version. Return without emitting when head.version is null. As per path instructions: “Polling sources must handle the ‘no new events’ case without errors or spurious emits.”

Store the version after emitting its event.

If $emit() fails, Line 33 has already marked the version as processed. The next poll skips that version, so the source cannot retry the event. Move _setLastVersion(head.version) after $emit(). As per path instructions: “Update stored state after emitting so partial failures do not skip events.”

Commit the deployment version after the row scan.

deploy() writes head.version before pagination, row emission, and _setSeenIds(). If deployment fails after that write, a later run() may skip the version without a complete seen-ID snapshot. Move the version write after _setSeenIds().

Suggested fix
       const head = await this.getHead();
-      this._setLastVersion(head.version);
       const ids = new Set();
...
       }
       this._setSeenIds(ids);
+      this._setLastVersion(head.version);

Move the `_setLastVersion` call in `deploy()` to after `_setSeenIds()`
completes. This ensures the deployment version is committed only after the row
scan and seen-ID snapshot are complete.
