This is a feature to update the unit allocations for output log files from namelist module programs from static explicit definitions to dynamic unit allocations.
Describe the solution you'd like
The proposed solution follows a suggestion from @mingchen-NOAA in PR #1629 to replace the lines
NDSN = 3
OPEN (NDSN, file=TRIM(INFILE)//'.log', form='formatted', iostat=IERR)
with
OPEN (NEWUNIT=NDSN, file=TRIM(INFILE)//'.log', form='formatted', iostat=IERR)
where NDSN is a declared but undefined integer value.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Currently no other plans for alternative solutions.
Additional context
This replacement would be for all namelist module files to maintain consistency.
