Help setting up the Interceptor

I need to PERMANENTLY intercept action=android.intent.action.OPEN_DOCUMENT and replace it with action=android.intent.action.GET_CONTENT

If you seen these two activities before, you are not crazy: they are both handled by Android's default Files app (package=com.android.documentsui), but with different result (the GET_CONTENT version has many more features)

I successfully launched the modified activity, but it is not permanent. I need to make it permanent.

Problem is:
The android.intent.action.OPEN_DOCUMENT gives us no opportunity to Open As and select App Manager's Interceptor. It is always set to the Files app, and has no way to clear.
And even if it did present an Open As, I'd always have to fill in the dialog with the information

Is there another way ?

Unfortunately, in modern Android versions, storage access framework (SAF) components can no longer be intercepted. Because SAF is the only way most apps can communicate, and the feature was poorly implemented, they have restricted it.

Does "modern android versions" include Android 11 ?

I mentioned that I successfully launched a modified version of it, right ?
I did it by disabling/freezing the SAF.
After this moment, an Open As prompt appeared. I chose Interceptor, wrote the strings, Unfroze the SAF, and launched the modified SAF !

Can something of the sorts be automated ?

Depends on vendors. But it is pretty much mandated since Android 11 when SAF was made mandatory for user applications. Some people were able to bypass it. You can look for such workarounds online for your device.
