Carl wants this strongly: "restyle all my presentations with a single click," is driven crazy by Google Slides version control, and wants "the ability to ingest slides and do everything automatically." Auto-ingest is the actual ask — not a nice-to-have to wave off.
Grounded reality
There are zero deck source files in git anywhere (no .pptx/.key/.qmd/.odp); presentations/index.md only links out to Figshare/YouTube/Drive. Every existing deck lives in a presenter's Google Drive. So a going-forward text format (Quarto/reveal.js) converts ~0% of the existing corpus on day one — it does not deliver "restyle all my presentations."
Recommendation — split into its own epic
Decouple slides from the site/schedule restructure (it doesn't touch the 44%/62% schedule churn, so it must not block that work). Deliverables:
Ingest feasibility probe (Carl's real ask — fund it, don't skip): take 3–5 representative Drive decks and answer honestly — can we export editable source? does any structure survive a PPTX/Slides → Markdown/Quarto conversion? Measure fidelity before committing to a converter.
Branded Google Slides "Import theme" template — a true one-click restyle inside the tool faculty already use, zero migration; satisfies "stop fighting Google Slides / restyle in one click" for the existing corpus now.
"One-click restyle of all decks via a text format" is a going-forward choice; the existing corpus depends on the ingest probe's outcome. Get his sign-off on that framing before any converter engineering. Text authoring is also an unvalidated bet against the same faculty audience — validate with one real lecture by a representative non-engineer. Runs parallel to the rest; part of #58 only as a tracking link.
