Sleep timer not activated when hitting play on earbud

I love using the sleep timer schedule feature, but when I want to continue play for another 10 mins by touching my earbud (Bluetooth play button), the timer is not started and the player just keeps playing indefinitely.

(Tested with Sony linkbuds S on Galaxy S23+ on Android 15)

Same issue with hitting the play button on the lock screen.
