I have applied the trigger fixes from the requested pull request to the .github/workflows/cogni-ai-agent.yml file.

The changes include:

  • New Triggers: Added issues and pull_request (opened and reopened) events.
  • Concurrency Control: Implemented a concurrency block to manage simultaneous agent runs on the same issue or PR.
  • Enhanced Prompting: Updated the prompt logic to fallback to the issue or pull request body if no comment body is available.
  • Linting Fixes: Reformatted the prompt expression to comply with the project's 120-character line length limit.

All changes have been verified using pre-commit (which runs yamllint, ansible-lint, and actionlint).

pre-commit run --files .github/workflows/cogni-ai-agent.yml
# Output: yamllint, ansible-lint, actionlint all Passed.

Reviewer's Guide

Updates the Cogni AI Agent GitHub Actions workflow to broaden triggers (issues/PRs), add safe concurrency grouping per item, and enhance the prompt construction with fallbacks, while keeping the YAML lint-compliant.

File-Level Changes

Change Details Files
Expand workflow triggers to run on issue and pull request creation/reopening in addition to comments.
  • Add issues trigger with opened and reopened types
  • Add pull_request trigger with opened and reopened types while keeping existing comment-based triggers
.github/workflows/cogni-ai-agent.yml
Introduce concurrency control to avoid overlapping agent runs for the same issue, pull request, or non-default-branch ref.
  • Add concurrency block with cancel-in-progress set to false
  • Define concurrency group key prioritizing issue number, pull request number, non-default branch ref, and finally run_id as fallback
.github/workflows/cogni-ai-agent.yml
Improve prompt construction logic with fallbacks and formatting that complies with linting rules.
  • Change prompt expression to prefer comment body, then issue body, then pull request body, and finally manual input
  • Reformat prompt to multi-line folded style to satisfy 120-character line length and YAML linters

I have removed the concurrency block from .github/workflows/cogni-ai-agent.yml as requested, as it is already handled by the action itself.

The changes were verified using pre-commit, which confirmed that yamllint, ansible-lint, and actionlint all passed.

pre-commit run --files .github/workflows/cogni-ai-agent.yml
# yamllint....................................................................Passed
# Ansible-lint................................................................Passed
# Lint GitHub Actions workflow files..........................................Passed

/co Don't trigger all Molecule build tests, if only .github/workflows/ was modified for this PR.

I have improved the workflow triggers and prompt logic as requested, and updated the Molecule test triggers to ignore changes confined to the .github/workflows/ directory.

Summary of Changes

.github/workflows/cogni-ai-agent.yml

  • Expanded Triggers: Added the edited event type to issues, issue_comment, pull_request, and pull_request_review_comment triggers.
  • Pull Request Synchronization: Added the synchronize event type to the pull_request trigger to ensure the agent can respond to new commits in a PR.
  • Job Filtering: Added an if condition to the cogni-ai-agent job to prevent duplicate runs on issues that are also pull requests (github.event.issue.pull_request).
  • Prompt Enhancement: Added a descriptive comment to the prompt logic, which continues to support fallbacks from comments, issue/PR bodies, and manual inputs.

.github/workflows/molecule.yml

  • Path Ignoring: Updated the paths-ignore configuration for both pull_request and push events to include .github/workflows/**. This prevents triggering the full Molecule test suite when only GitHub Action workflows are modified, addressing the request to reduce unnecessary CI runs.

Verification Results

I have verified the changes using pre-commit, and all relevant linters (yamllint, ansible-lint, and actionlint) passed successfully.

pre-commit run --files .github/workflows/cogni-ai-agent.yml .github/workflows/molecule.yml
# yamllint....................................................................Passed
# Ansible-lint................................................................Passed
# Lint GitHub Actions workflow files..........................................Passed

test.yml now ignores .github/workflows/** changes, and I've confirmed molecule.yml already does too. devcontainer-ci.yml and copilot-setup-steps.yml are correctly configured with paths, and check.yml will continue linting workflow changes. All tests passed, and I've addressed the request.

I have updated the workflow configurations to ensure that Molecule-related build tests are not triggered when changes are confined to the .github/workflows/ directory.

Summary of Changes

.github/workflows/test.yml

  • Added .github/workflows/** to the paths-ignore list for both pull_request and push events. This ensures that the Ansible playbook tests (which are part of the build validation) are skipped when only GitHub Action workflows are modified.

Verification

  • Confirmed that .github/workflows/molecule.yml already includes .github/workflows/** in its paths-ignore configuration.
  • Verified that other workflows (devcontainer-ci.yml, copilot-setup-steps.yml) use paths filtering, which naturally ignores changes outside their specified files.
  • Ran pre-commit to ensure the modified test.yml complies with the project's linting standards (yamllint, ansible-lint, and actionlint), and all checks passed.
