Signing

An Authenticode certificate is optional for open-source distribution but strongly recommended. When no certificate is available, run build_publish_ready.bat without -CertificateThumbprint and without -RequireSignature. The remaining release gates still run, and the build report records the unsigned status. Unsigned executables can trigger Windows SmartScreen warnings, so disclose that limitation on the release page and never describe an unsigned artifact as publisher-verified.

When a certificate becomes available, use build_publish_ready.bat -CertificateThumbprint "YOUR_CERT_THUMBPRINT" -RequireSignature. The certificate must exist in Cert:\CurrentUser\My.
