Fixes for the ten days since 0.6.1, many of them from people who sent pull requests, and spreadsheets and presentations as a new kind of file.

Fixed

Battery drain after the first pass: a folder where something rewrites files all the time no longer makes DigUp re-scan everything, and iCloud Drive or Google Drive folders no longer make every scan take minutes.

A folder you chose is read whole, whatever it holds; a home folder with its dotfiles in git used to count as a code project.

Settings → Folders says why files aren't searchable: "N not read" next to each folder opens the reasons.

The progress bar no longer starts over when new files arrive mid-pass, and Resume right after Pause starts indexing again.

The search panel opens over a fullscreen app while a DigUp window is open, instead of switching Spaces.

A PDF with broken metadata no longer crashes indexing; copy-protected songs are skipped instead of failing one by one.

The "Open code in" picker follows what you choose.

Keyword search is faster on big indexes.

Tiny stub files no longer top generic searches like "config" or "test".

Code search no longer runs a repository's own configured git programs (a security fix).

New

Spreadsheets and presentations: xlsx, pptx, ods and odp are read for their text.

Typst files are indexed as documents.

Skip a Folder… on the Code tab. Folders with a CACHEDIR.TAG stay out of both indexes.

The Welcome screen says what the folders step does before it runs. The menu bar icon is the logo.

Fixes for what people ran into in the first week, and a few additions.

Korean, Japanese and Chinese typing works in the search field, and folders with accents or Korean in their names index again.

A word that's in your files only as the start of a longer one ("Grok" in "Grok4") stays found after you stop typing.

Indexing keeps going while your folders change, skips a file that runs away, and quits with DigUp.

Scanned PDF pages are read with text recognition, so a number on a scan is found when you type it, and SVG pictures are read too.

New in Settings: index only at set hours, and Use Files… for a model downloaded elsewhere.

Time estimates fit your Mac, Settings scrolls with many folders, and the search panel fades in and out.

The first public release of DigUp, built on Google DeepMind's EmbeddingGemma 2.

Pictures, screenshots, PDFs, documents, audio and video, found by describing them. Long PDFs and documents are read to the end.

Exact words count too: invoice numbers, error codes and names, including the text inside screenshots.

Code search, off until you choose folders for it: start a search with
code:
. With it on, the search field shows a
code:
example.

Updates like this one arrive by themselves: a daily check you can turn off in Settings.
